board the ship or nircrnft any gold, securities, or foreign currency
and may seize any gold, saoul-nies, or foreign currenoy found upou
such nomination, or search, being gold, secun‘ties, or foreign
currency which the said olfiœr ha: renxonable ground for suspeeting
to be in tbe ship or aùvrafi for the purpose of being taken or sent out
cf the New Hebrides in contravention ol paragraph (l) of this
Article.
(4) As respects any gonds consigned from the New Hebrides
to n destination which is ontxide the New Hem-ides nny District
Agent or Police Oflioer or any ofiicer of the Postal or Customs
Service may examine or search the goods for the purpose of incertain-
ing whether there are being sent therewith any gold, murities or
foreign currency and _may seize any gold, securilies or foreign
cumncy round upon snob nomination or semh unless there appears
w the soid ofiicet w have been granted by or on behalf of the
Resident Commissioners a oenificate which shows that the sending
aforesaid of gold, securiües or foreign currency does not involve a
contravention of paragraph (1) of this Article.
Any ofiioer aforementioned mny go on board any ship or airtraft
for Lhe purpose of exemising the powers conferred on him by this
paragraph in relation w any gonds on bond Lhe ship or aircrafl.
(5) For the purpoaes of this Article, any bill of exchange or
promisscry note payable otherwise than in any currency issued by
lhe Government of, or under the law of, any part of tbe sterling ares
not being bills or notes which are Iegal tender in any part of that
a.rea, shnll be deemed lo be foreign currency.
(6) In this Article the expression “security” ineludes n deposit
reoeipt in respect cf the deposit of secnrities, a unit or sub-Ilnil ol‘ a
unit trust, a coupon representing dividends or interest and a life or
endowment assurance policy, and any document ol' u'tle relating to
any secnrity.
4. (l) Subject to any exemptions which mny be granted by
Order of the Resident Commissioners, no person 5h31], either on bis
own belulf or on behalf of any other persan, ligne w transfer or
acquire, or transfer or acquire otherwise than by operation of law
or by inheritanoe, any securities or any internat in securities, uniess
