XXIV. 11"‘ P1?’ The painting of the body consists in front of a black inverted triangle, the apex is over the SlBl'll!l'' ; on each side oi this are: (1) a. variegated longitudinal ted band with blue chevrous flanked by white cbcvrous in the upper part, below these are alternate blue and yellow A-markings ; (2) s white hand; (3) a black hand ; (4) 3 red band. The sides are black. The hack is essentially similar to the front. Round the waist is a dilapidated bark belt tied round by a ï¬Ånely plaited belt, ne Isl. The penis is provided with the usual wrapper. On each shoulder are two faces looking forwards and backwards, with prominent noses and a thick white plug in each nostril, there is a deformed boar’s tusk in each angle of the mouth. Each pair of heads is surmounted by a ï¬Åbrous cone, that on the left shoulder has a long conical plaited cap with alternate spaced red and blue vertical lines. The arms are painted red. On the left upper arm is a black and white shell-bead arrrllet of the Nimungki grade Nimew} and below this is a circular b0ar's tusk. The forearm has a deep turtle-shell sxrnlet and seventeen more or less circular boars‘ tuske. On the right arm is a painted arm-band, and a very deep turtle-shell armlet and thirteen boars’ tuslrs on the forearrn. The hands have radiating ï¬Ångers with added nails and are painted red. The fairly well~rn0delled legs are of Wood} the feet are represented by discs of wood, rlowpartly broken, The thighs are painted with white, red, and black horizontal bands. There is a tunes face on each knee : i the left is black with white Lines and spots, the ri ht iace also has white spots, the cheeks and nose are red, the eyes white and the mouth red with yellow teeth. Below the leit knee is a banana (?) lea! band and below this, and also on the right leg, are three white hands, between which is a red zigzag bordered with white and with blue triangular inter-spaces, Turnman Island man with a cured head (Martin Johrison) , Dolmen, with 3 deiormed skull in the lagha it Melpmes . Xviii, ï¬Åg. 2a, which he describes as an arm-badge oi “ Zvfew-I/mguuml ", on p. I65 he describes the ceremonies of the degree “ Mew-langawul (Niwlzw) and on p. 161 says " a new arrn-badge (binben) (pl. xviii, ï¬Ågs, Za and L) " is paid for.
