This cursory survey of the manner of living and the interests
of the Malekulans refers primarily to the people of South-West
Bay, about whom we know more than we do of the inhabitants
of the other districts, but it may probably be taken as typical
of all parts of the island, though, as will be seen, there are many
local variations. We may now proceed to a more detailed account
of the social organization, the economic and ritual life of the
different districts.
